The challenge was to take a 1000 year old building, retain its heritage qualities and make it an asset to the work of the 21st-century church in the city. This was a new type of brief, to create a truly multifunctional heritage auditorium, used for worship, conferences, dinners, concerts, drama, weddings, funerals, multimedia events, workshops and children's activities. The works included underfloor heating, new level floor, restored and enhanced decoration, new seating and relocatable platform, toilets, new AV and lighting.
Rev David MacInnes, Rector, St Aldates, Oxford
“(The project)… brought the congregation together rather than dividing it. When we came back into the building…we found the church was even better than we had expected. The project had a great spiritual effect upon the congregation. We are a family now… In the round. We have a freedom… It is not a Sunday only building. So, both in its spiritual impact and on our ministry it has been absolutely remarkable"
